TRIO Colleagues and supporters, please contact your local Congressional Rep and let them know:

1) Not support the PROSPER Act as is.  If enacted, several of the provisions could endanger TRIO funding in the future.

2) Request that they support funding for TRIO FY2019

You can look up your House of Representative here:

#TRIOworks, #COE, #BAYAREATRIOSTEM. The Council for Opportunity in Education and TRIO personnel from California’s greater Bay Area region met on March 14, 2016 to begin dialogue to plan a regional STEM focused gathering in early 2017.  The proposed convening could include panels composed of TRIO Alumni and aimed at motivating current TRIO participants to explore professional careers in STEM and other fields.  A second series of workshops could focus on professional development of TRIO students currently in high school, undergraduates, and recent college graduates.

What are your thoughts?  If you are a staff member of a TRIO or other educational opportunity program, would this be of interest to you and your students?  What recommendations would you offer the planning team?

Thinking further out, what opportunities and challenges do you see in identifying and supporting students interested in STEM education?  What role could or should COE and/or WESTOP play in assisting programs enhance their programming for students interested in STEM?

Please direct all recommendations, comments and questions to solutions@EDvolution.org and let us know if you are interested in assisting with the planning!
